Easy to get Hired On. Very Unconcerned about its Drivers! They have absolutely the Worst Training for New Drivers. I Honestly took a Greyhound home and called a week later and they had NO idea.
I felt totally abandoned by company. AVOID this place if possible. They mostly cater to Experienced drivers. Do yourself a favor and Find you a better Company. Pros Beautiful places. Management was ok they didn't make me feel important or valued but nor did they make me feel like just a number to them. They have plenty of options to advance if u choose to go that route. They will pay for truck driving school up front and deduct a small amount from your weekly paycheck to for a year to pay it back. They use a mentor training program which has you drive with a mentor for anywhere from 1 to 3 months to train you.
At the end of your training period you are given a written and road test after which you will graduate to solo driver status and are assigned a truck. Swift mostly uses newer Freightliners and Internationals but they less commonly use Kenworth and Volvo trucks as well. Almost all of their fleet are automatic transmission trucks but they also have a few manuals as well which is why the require you to learn manual transmissions in truck school.
Pay is very generous for rookie drivers, more so than other mega carriers. One thing to be weary of is that the recruiters are flat out liars who will tell you anything to rope you in. I was told I could be home weekly and explained that I have a custody order with my daughter and have to get home every weekend. Recruiter said it would be no problem but after I graduated truck school and was formally hired I was told that as an OTR company that it would not be possible to be home every week, still the company did try and get me home every week for the first few months but then told me that drivers were then required to stay out a minimum of 2 weeks before they could have a weekend home.
